In a significant development for our local community, the Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce is delighted to learn that the Wilko store located in Angel Place, Bridgwater, will remain open and is not included in the list of 52 stores set to close as a result of Wilko entering administration.
As the announcement by administrators PwC confirms that 26 Wilko stores across the country will close their doors due to the “absence of viable offers” for the entire company, we are pleased to that our very own Bridgwater store has been spared from this fate.
B&M has made a significant offer of £13 million for up to 51 Wilko buildings, but the future of the brand and an additional 300 stores still hangs in the balance.
Bridgwater Chamber Manager Diogo Rodrigues expressed the chamber’s sentiment, stating, “The retention of the Wilko store in Angel Place, is indeed a cause for celebration. This not only reinforces the health and vitality of our town centre but also exerts a favourable influence on neighbouring businesses, particularly with regards to footfall.”
He adds, “The continued presence of a thriving Wilko store significantly contributes to the overall economic vigour of our local community.”
