The Third Space explained
As it’s my second anniversary I thought it was a good time to explain the name of my business. I occasionally get asked ‘where did you get the name ‘The Third Space’ and what does it mean?’ or words to that affect. The term The Third Space is a theory used as a reference to a place where people can interact, learn and develop fresh thinking. I could go into a more in-depth explanation but its quite complicated and it was just the basic concept of The Third Space that caught my attention.
So building on this concept, and considering that the first and second spaces are where we socialise and gain academic knowledge, I see the Third Space as an alternative to this. For me it is a place where people can have a different conversation free from the boundaries that limit are thinking and where new and fresh ideas can be generated.
This is how I work with people depending on what they hope to achieve. If you are an individual, or a team or even a whole organisation (I like a challenge) who feels stuck or needs to be more agile and change, I can work with you. We will leave behind the constraints of the first and second space. These constraints are often in the form of assumptions we deveop over time that can sometimes hold people back from being brave and innovative. We will build on the strengths and wisdom that you bring. Each time you leave the Third Space, you will have learned something and be able to take it away and put it into action. When you return, we continue to build on that.
