New Leaf has announced that Mental Health First Aid England has allowed Director, Becky Wright, to deliver Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). MHFA England is the national licensed organisation for MHFA training.
Mental Health First Aid is an educational course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help a person who may be developing a mental health issue. In the same way as we learn physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health.
Becky trained via the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) at Mental Health First Aid England / The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity on their intensive trainer’s programme.
This has been very topical in the news this week, with a push from more than 50 Chief Executives, from banking, retail, education and utility sectors, who have signed an open letter to the Prime Minister warning that every year, workplace mental health issues cost the UK economy almost £35 billion, with 15.4 million working days lost to work-related stress, depression or anxiety. They highlight a petition signed by more than 200,000 people, calling for a change in the law to give mental health first aid equal status to physical first aid.
Becky said, “I am delighted we will be able to offer this two-day essential course in Somerset. I have also secured a special discount for SMEs and Sole Traders based in Sedgemoor to encourage our smallest firms to look after mental health and wellbeing thanks to Sedgemoor District Council. We can also offer in-house training now for organisations.”
New Leaf’s next course will be on the 12th and 13th December at Cannington Court in Bridgwater. Click the following link to book on:
