A charity golf day has raised £8,000 to help provide therapies and support for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other conditions. Up to 98 players of all ages and abilities took part in the event, organised by Westcotts Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers.
The firm supports a range of local charities and its annual golf day at Teignmouth Golf Club in aid of the South West MS Centre, is very much part of the fundraising calendar. The total collected from this year’s event, held on 14 September, will go towards providing therapies and support for people living with multiple sclerosis, as well as other conditions.
Multiple sclerosis is a lifelong condition that can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance.
This year 25 teams battled it out for the coveted MS Shield, with G A Solicitors triumphing whilst Compton Valley Wealth Management won the Westcotts Trophy.
Jon Mitchell, Partner at Westcotts and in charge of organising the annual charity golf day said, “We’re really pleased to have been able to raise more than £8,000 to support the work of the South West MS Centre – a whopping £3,000 more than last year!
“Our yearly fundraising event is one I look forward to every year. It’s an incredibly worthwhile cause that’s close to a lot of people’s hearts and we’re happy to have been able to help in this small way.
“We were lucky to have some fantastic weather on the day and it was great to see everyone enjoying playing, whether they were ‘part-time’ golfers or as experienced regulars. There was a great atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy taking part and catching up with each other.
‘’My thanks extends to all those who helped with the organisation of the day, the players, the staff at Teignmouth Golf Club and to all the businesses who supported the event.’’
Rory Gibson, Chair of the Board of Trustees, South West MS Centre said, “The golf day is one of the biggest events in our annual calendar and this year we are so pleased, and indeed, proud, that we have been able to exceed the amount raised in recent years.
“Our sincere thanks and gratitude to all of those who have contributed to this excellent outcome including our good friends at Westcotts, the hard work of our fundraising staff, the generosity of local businesses and all those who sponsored holes and donated various auction and raffle prizes, and of course, our very generous golfers.
“The funds raised will help us to continue to provide much-needed therapies to people with Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological conditions across the South West.”
