Sedgemoor Business Conference
Thursday 3rd November saw the annual Sedgemoor Business Conference launched with this year the spot light was firmly on the EDF project and Exporting for business. Hosted by “Ian Dyer” Anne Fraser and Doug bamsey the event opened up with introduction and update on the EDF / Hinkley C project/ from David Eccles (EDFS Man in Somerset) and Site Operations manager David Peacop. David was the main organiser of the 2012 Olympic Games in London and received an OBE for his successes.
The theme then turned to Exporting with insights from “Julia Ounsworth”, (Santander International Director) “Antoanetta Becker” (China-Britain Business Council) “Thomas Mundy” (Nu Scale) based in Oregon and specialises in the creation of portable power generation units. Then “Hilary Charman” from DIT spoke about exporting and the assistance which is available for local businesses. This was followed by speeches from 3 local companies who have been successful in exporting “Andrew Brownlow” from BFF, “Stephen Jones” From Somerdale and Guy Atkins from Jo Bird & Co spoke about success in exporting. Finally James Gore from Bristol airport spoke about the expansion plans and highlighted the need for them to grow along with the areas growth.
The event was brought to an end with “Doug Bamsey” Director of Sedgemoor District Council giving a brief overview of the opportunities that local growth will bring was very positive about the future of the area.
Networking over lunch saw a chance for many queries and conversations with some of the decision makers locally.
